In Mature Company

Yorkshire Dance's In Mature Company, which works with adults living with dementia in residential care, has been commissioned by Leeds NHS TRUST to use dance activity during the day to promote health and wellbeing amongst residents whilst helping to regularise the sleep-patterns of people in care homes in Leeds. Regular sleep patterns are beneficial for people with dementia and for reducing pressure on care workers on night shifts, leading to improved job satisfaction and better staff retention. This contributes to a more skilled health and care workforce better able to provide the best care, and to reduced training costs. The initiative was funded by a small, time-limited and one-off, rather than systematic, pot of money, so regardless of how successful it may prove to be, there is no clear cut mechanism to continue it.

Health Connections

Yorkshire Dance are contributing to the Health Connections project led by Maria Maynard, Professor of Health Inequalities at Leeds Beckett University. Health Connections is a community-based diet, physical activity and healthy weight intervention for UK Black and South Asian adults. Yorkshire Dance bring their experience of different models of activity with older people and the findings of their research undertaken with the University of Leeds, around physical activity and the benefits of dance.
